Late fee for Registration or Renewal


A late fee of $29.00 will be charged if the customer fails to register the permit within 50 days from the invoice date.

A late fee of $29.00 will be charged if the customer fails to renew the permit within 50 days from the invoice date.

Permit Period: 1 year from the issue date.

Alarm Company Business Licensing:
Alarm companies are required to register and renew the business license for an annual fee of $103.00.

Failure to renew the business license within 30 days from the invoice date will amount to a late fee of $29.00.  

Burglar and Robbery/Panic false alarm are counted separately and will be charged in the 12-month permit period. The false alarm counter will reset at the end of the permit period unless suspended.

Alarm Charges (Registered / Unregistered / Expired Location)

  1. All burglary alarms are $93.00 each.
  2. All robbery/panic alarms are $251.00 each.

Late Fee for False Alarms
8.06.055 (l)(2)

A late fee of $29.00 will be charged if the customer has failed to pay the false alarm fines within 50 days from the invoice date.

Non-Compliance Charges to Security Alarm Company

  1. Failure of notify of new install within 10 days from the installation date: $100.00 per location. This will be charged to the alarm installation company. An additional late fee of $28.00 will be charged for failure to pay the invoice within 50 days. 8.06.055 (d)(6)

  2. Requesting dispatch to a suspended site: $50.00 per burglar alarm incident (it will be charged only if the email notification has been sent for more than 5 business days before the incident occurrence.) This will be charged to the alarm monitoring company. An additional late fee of $28.00 will be charged for failure to pay the invoice within 50 days. 8.06.055 (n)(2)
  • Alarm user, alarm installation or monitoring company has a right to appeal the false alarm fine or the suspension of permit.

  • Appeal request must be submitted to PM AM in writing within 20 business days from the date of notification of such fine or action.

  • Appeal fee: N/A

  • PM AM will provide the appeal documents to the customer (as used by ATB, reference for ATB services will be replaced with City of Reno)

  • PMAM will forward all documents provided by the Alarm user to the City of Reno Alarm Administrator for review and appeal processing. The City of Reno Alarm Administrator will inform PMAM of any adjustments which need to be made on the account once the appeal decision has been completed.

  • PM AM will notify the citizen of the appeal decision through the available means of correspondence.

  • If the customer provides a police report or report number, they still need to undergo with the appeal process. If the appeal review approves the waiver or reductions of fees/fines, the $26.00 appeal fee will be returned to the customer.

Suspension/Revocation: Reinstatement Process: Exempt Locations
Permit suspension
8.06.055 (m)(2)

Excessive false alarms: 3 or more burglar false alarms during a permit year
Nonpayment: Non-payment of false alarm fine or renewal fee within 80 days from the invoice date.

PM AM will send a suspension notice to the alarm user. 8.06.055 (m)(2)

PM AM will notify the alarm company of the suspension through an automated email procedure. This email should contain the list of permits suspended for both reasons with information like permit number, permit name, address and reason for suspension. 8.06.055 (m)(2)
Reinstatement process


Excessive false alarms:
  • Pay all outstanding invoices,
  • pay a reinstatement fee of $61.00,
  • Complete the online school and
  • Provide documentation showing that the alarm system has been inspected or repaired or letter of explanation.

Nonpayment of False Alarm Fine:
  • Pay all outstanding invoices and
  • pay a reinstatement fee of $61.00.

Nonpayment of Renewal:
  • Pay all outstanding invoices

PM AM will not issue a reinstatement invoice automatically however if the customer wishes to reinstate the permit, PM AM will issue a standalone invoice for the reinstatement fee.

Once the conditions for reinstatement are met, permit should be automatically reinstated. Once the permit is reinstated for excessive false alarms or non-payment of false alarm fines, the false alarm counter will reset to zero.
Government entities, including but not necessarily limited to the City of Reno, Washoe County and the Washoe County School District, must obtain permits for all alarm systems on property under their control within the corporate boundaries of the City of Reno, but are exempt from payment of permit and renewal fees. The exempt locations will be charged for false alarm fines but are exempt from suspension, revocation etc. These exempt locations required to pay the annual registration fee and will be charged for false alarm fines according to their exempt status as follows:
  1. Exempt - Annual Registration Fee : This will allow City of Reno to define the permit numbers which should be charged for false alarm fines but will not be charged for annual registration fee.

  2. Exempt - False Alarm Fines : This will allow City of Reno to define the permit numbers which should be charged for annual registration fee but will not be charged for false alarm fines.

  3. Exempt - Annual Registration Fee and False Alarm Fines : This will allow City of Reno to define the permit numbers which should not be charged for annual registration fee and false alarm fines.
Important Notes:
  1. An alarm permit cannot be transferred.
  2. Senior citizens (60 or older for residential only) - No additional proof is required.
  3. For locations identified as unregistered, PM AM will send the false alarm invoice along with the registration fee invoice.
  4. PM AM will not issue a reinstatement invoice automatically however if the customer wishes to reinstate the permit, PM AM will issue a standalone invoice for the reinstatement fee.
